Not bad

Your tone is sounding pretty good compared to a lot of your older sounds. How did you manage to get a POD X3? I figured your wife would be quite against it. Well anyway man, good luck with future tweaking. Just make sure you don't let your tone get brittle.

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

haha, no worries there, man. This was all standard settings. Though, a bit loud on the distortion. Fuck man, there is soo much I can tweak. haha. I had to use my headphones to mix this up...as it was late at night.

And yeah, the wife wouldn't have been pleased, but we re financed our house to include a little extra cash, so we had some "no questions asked" money, left over. I still have some left. :D

Anyways, good to see you out and about.
Thanks as always, bro.

Hey!

Seems like it's been ages since I last talked with you. It sounds like you've improved your playing and overall sound even more. Which is pretty impressive.

What drum samples are you using nowadays? It sounds like EZDrummer, but like you tweaked the hell out of it. It also reminds me a bit of Session Drummer 2. At any rate, the drums are sounding great.

The rhythm guitars are nice and chunky without being too bass heavy, and the panning sounds just right. The leads are played really well, as usual when it comes to your tunes. Sounds like you've been practicing a lot. I really don't have a single bad thing to say unfortunately. it all sounds great. Hope to hear some more shit from you man, nice to see you kicking around again.

rocker206 responds:

Hey thanks for your review speedy, yeah it has been awhile lol.
Right now I'm just experimenting with samples I found online, tweaking them and putting them together in reason instead of programming them entirely like i use to do. For this song i actually meshed two completely different drum tracks together which worked surprisingly well I think.
Anyways thanks again and I hope I'll have something ready for this site soon. \m/

Fuck Yeah!

Opeth are fucking amazing. I'm amazed this actually fit. How much did you have to compress it exactly? Overall I'd say the mixing is decent, though I'd have to listen without headphones to really give a better opinion on it.

Your playing sounds great, especially the rhythm. I'd have to say my favorite part is the acoustic section. The drums must have been a real bitch to do. I've been working on the drums to The Grand Conjuration for quite a while now, but am going to be starting over, haha. Anyway man, for all the work you put in it sounds really awesome. Though it'd be better if you didn't have to compress it as much. Keep up the great work.

Eternalreich responds:

yeah thanks alot for the support

the drums sucked balls it took f o r e v e r

i plan to do some more

maybe still day beneath the sun

Wow

Man, that PODX3 sounds even better than I thought it would. Now I really want one.

Your playing is great especially on the harmonies. You rhythm sounds like it's pretty tight. Which is good since this is an Iced Earth song.

As far as an opinion on the mix, I'd say give the snare a bit more compression along with the kicks. I like the cymbals. The only thing about the mixing that really even bugs me is the low kickdrums. I'm liking where the guitars sit in the mix.

Keep it up man, I'm loving the new sound.

Eternalreich responds:

cool man thanks for the review

the drums are pre mixed with ez drummer and i havent fucked with that....yet

i agree with the bass drum sound but at least it sounds pretty real..... kind of

the only parts that piss me off are my sustain on the lead melodies and the feel

of the first flute part i have trouble with vibrato on the high e string

thanks for the support and keep listening

Pretty cool man

Overall it's a good job, but the drums could use a bit of work. I also don't think you had too many cymbal crashes. I just think you used them the same way too many times. If you could have come up with variations I think they'd have sounded a lot better. Like if you had added some eighth note cymbals that switched between a couple of crashes, or had done some more rhythmic cymbal work. If I'm not too clear with what I mean, try listening to Mike Portnoy drum. He uses crashes, splashes, and any other cymbal you'd ever want really well. As for the rest of the tune I can't really complain.

I can't wait to hear some new tunes from you man.

Eternalreich responds:

yeah man that cymbal shit pisses me off

the drums definitely suck on this shit

but its got a couple cool riffs at the end

thanks alot

Awesome

Great job with the vocals, both of you did great with them. Cyril has a great voice, and your mixing was awesome. I also love your drums, how much compression do you have on the kick and snare? They'd sound awesome in a metal tune. All around badass man, you ever need guitar recorded I'd love to help you out.

Rig responds:

Alright, here's what I did:

I made two copies of the vocals and detuned one of them for a richer sound (I had to turn one copy down to reduce phasing). I ran them through some EQ and a compressor with some saturation. I cut off the low end and added distortion for the whispered beginning, but it's flat and clean for the screams.

The bass was made with 3xOsc - I made a detuned sawy sound and set its internal SVP LP x2 filter (resonance up all the way) to the velocity of the notes, for a different sound every time you press the key. I ran the whole thing through Ohmicide, Naive LP filter (it changed the cutoff with the amplitude of the input signal), and some compression.

The drums were pretty simple - I got a couple loops and ran it through two different inserts. One was dry while the other one was highpassed and had Supatrigga in it. Both of them were ran through the same compressor as the bass. By the way, I used the free compressor BLOCKFISH to do all the compression in this piece.

In the master track, I just cut off the lows and highs and did a final touch of compression to keep the vocals and instruments more or less equal. :)

Hope that helps!

Nice

So this was why you were practicing the higher black metal type vocals. 'Tis a cool tune. Your voice is sounding good all around. Though you sound like your forcing the higher vocals a little bit and losing power on them. Next time I catch you online I'll send you a video with some vocal exercises in it. Angels did a badass job on the music as usual. The drums are well done and the solo was great. He's too damn good at writing songs, hahaha.

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

Haha, thanks man. I tried to mail you portions of this song a bunch of times but I was having email fucking issues. Dammit. Anyways, I really wasn't running out steam...I had to spread the black metalish vocals out over a couple days, cause they really were hard on my regular growling.
But yeah, would definitely appreciate the video. haha. Did I tell you, we almost had to go to that place near you, to retrieve a certificate for the welder that did the frame on the truck. It would have sucked, cause I would have had no way to get a hold of you. I should really get your particulars one day. We may make a habbit of jouneying into the states for vehicles.

Anyways, fuck...Angels is a wicked songwriter. You and him are my favorite.

Hopefully I'll catch you on soon.

Well

Despite it being entirely Guitar Pro sounds, I actually kind of like it. The song itself would be great in a game and is pretty catchy. Keep it up man.

Haggard responds:

Thanks! :)

Pretty good

There are a lot of cracks in the tune, but that can be fixed easily by lowering the master channel. The vocals are pretty good, but have too much reverb on them for my liking. I'd pull it back a bit and throw some compression on them if you already haven't. The drums sound good and the guitars are done well. The mix could also use so more kick. You could try using a multi-band compressor if you've got one to really give it more volume and power without letting it clip. Still though all around good job man.

TheRealSam responds:

Thanks for that detailed review :)
For the cracks, it's all about the vocals! I must lower them a bit.
For the reverb, it's like in the original (during the chorus).
Yeah, I'll try to add some volume to the kick too.
Thanks again! :)

Nice

I like how it sounds so far. I like the synths you're using they blend quite well with the guitars. I would try and add some power chords at the beginning though and reverse them to have them lead into the palm muted riff that first comes in. if that makes sense. Anyway I'll definitely be looking forward to the full version.

Sonofkirk responds:

hey! thank you for compliments councils ! I'm glad you liked it !
I'll probably get a new distortion : The dimebag's DD-11... i think i'll use fir the full version
See ya
